Principal Research Software Engineers Jack Atkinson and Marion Weinzierl receive the Community Award (Training & Education) on behalf of ICCS
We're beyond proud and delighted that ICCS won a prize at the RSECon26 Community Awards last week.
ICCS was the joint winner of the Community Award (Training & Education) for the Summer Schools we've delivered, the open training materials we've created and published, as well as the training for researchers and RSEs that we've provided at conferences and other external events.
The citation said: “The RSE team at the Institute of Computing for Climate Science has demonstrated exceptional leadership and impact in the domain of interdisciplinary training and education. They have designed and delivered a comprehensive portfolio of training initiatives aimed at equipping researchers with essential software engineering and computational skills, including the annual ICCS Summer School, a week-long programme that has trained over 200 graduate students and researchers to date.
“Alongside high-quality training sessions in research software engineering topics, the team provides bespoke training on FTorch, a tool for coupling PyTorch machine learning codes to computational models written in Fortran. ICCS training sessions are made available via YouTube and workshop materials are published as open educational resources, broadening access to high-quality training materials.
“Through these diverse and sustained efforts, the ICCS RSE team has made a significant contribution to advancing skills development within and beyond the climate science and research software communities.”
Marion Weinzierl, one of our Principal Research Software Engineers, also won two prizes for her work:
- the Claire Wyatt Outstanding Contribution to the RSE Community Award
- the Community Award (Impact).
Congratulations, Marion!
Jack Atkinson and Marion were on hand to collect the awards on our behalf. Thank you to everyone who's been involved with our work.
