ICCS Training Workshop at WCRP Open Science Conference

The University of Cambridge's Institute of Computing for Climate Science will be hosting a training workshop for Early Career Researchers on Saturday 21st October in Kigali, Rwanda, ahead of the WCRP Open Science Conference.

The workshop is intended to support those doing climate science research by improving their use of software engineering good practice and some computational techniques. It is intended for those who already have a basic skill in these areas. Potential topics (from which we will select the most popular) include:
  • Using Git and GitHub effectively
  • Pairing and code review
  • Principles of correctness and testing
  • Introduction to GPU programming
  • Using types to rule out bugs: Python vs Fortran perspectives.
Date/time: Saturday 21st October (9:00 - 17:00) and lunch will be provided
Location: the African Institute for Mathematical Studies in Kigali (in-person only)
Closing date: In order for us to plan, the form will close at 23:59pm on Wednesday 23rd August.

Please fill in the registration form above to sign up for this workshop. There are 100 places that will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Participation requires a confirmed registration at WCRP Open Science Conference. We will ask attendees to provide proof upon receipt of a confirmation e-mail.

About Us

Computational modelling is key to climate science. But models are becoming increasingly complex as we seek to understand our world in more depth and model it at higher fidelity. The Institute of Computing for Climate Science studies and supports the role of software engineering, computer science, artificial intelligence, and data science within climate science.

The institute comprises a collaboration between Cambridge Zero, the Departments of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (host department of the institute), Computer Science and Technology, and University Information Services at the University of Cambridge.
