I've long held an interest in software programming and operations. I studied computer science at the University of Kent for three years plus a year working in industry in Germany. I especially enjoyed compiler programming and the cloud operations work I did on placement.
After graduating with a bachelor's, I worked with a previous professor of mine on a set of Fortran language tools for a couple of years. Partway through, I was brought onto the ICCS RSE team.
In my hobby coding, I love working on tools aimed at fellow programmers. How can I make life easier for someone doing the same job as myself? Working with researchers as an RSE has a similar flavour: we inspect code and think about how best to improve it to make it more useful, and accessible for other people who may want to use it
