About
Probabilistic approaches to AI are important in environmental science due to the inherent uncertainties and complexities of natural systems. There is the potential for probabilistic AI to make a major contribution to accurate predictions, risk assessment, and informed decision-making in the face of climate change, pollution, and other environmental challenges.
This is a joint event organised by NERC and the EPSRC-funded Prob_AI Hub. The aim is to bring together relevant research communities, to build new connections and stimulate collaboration. The aspiration is this will lead to follow-up activity, including new projects. The target audience for the event includes: (i) academic researchers working in probabilistic AI; (ii) academic researchers working in NERC’s remit with an interest in this area; (iii) business and public sector partners with an interest in probabilistic AI in environmental science applications.
This joint event reflects the rapidly growing importance of AI to environmental science and NERC are expected to launch a new funding opportunity in this area later in 2025.
